Watch out for dogs while in the field. I hear of a few inspectors being bitten by dogs every year. One inspector was out of work for six months and had multiple surgeries on his hand. Rabies in dogs in the US has NOT been eradicated.
Wash the wound with soap and water between 10 to 15 minutes, if you do get bitten by an animal, and contact your health-care provider to see whether you need rabies post-exposure prophylaxis.
Contact animal control and report the attack. They need to check the records to make sure the dog's owner has kept up with rabies vaccinations.
If the dog has rabies and you do not get the rabies vaccine soon enough, there is a 99% chance that you will die.
Animal bites are serious. Bats and raccoons also carry rabies ... watch out for these animals when inspecting attics. Make sure that your actions are correct so as to protect you against rabies. It kills.
Rabies is Very serious. I got bit by a fat bat when I lived in Sevierville, TN...I had 5 rounds of shots. It was Extremely painful. When dogs are present-I do not get out of my car...and the odds of ever getting bit by a bat again are slim and zip. Lol?
