The general rule of thumb in any business is that the best jobs and the best pay is near the top of a business. Every business is built like a pyramid. Your position in the pyramid determines both your pay and your job security. The more layers between you and the top of the pyramid means less pay for you (more middlemen taking a cut) and less job security.
When you work for Sand Castle Field Services as an inspector, you are working directly for the Sand Castle Field Services vendor manager. You will never talk to a Bank of America Field Services vendor manager. For almost all of their mortgage inspections, Bank of America hires OUTSIDE area managers (inspectors) who hire other OUTSIDE inspectors who hire other inspectors. Bank of America Field Services injects several layers of OUTSIDE management between you and their vendor manager. This means less pay for you as the middlemen take their cut. It also means less job security as middlemen inspector managers come and go. The pyramid structure at Bank of America Field Services has many more layers than the pyramid structure at Sand Castle Field Services. More layers in the business pyramid means less money for you and less job security.
If your operating expense is $1 an inspection, you will profit profit only $2 on the Bank of America Field Services inspection while you will profit $29 on the Sand Castle Field Services inspections. Your profit is 1,450% more with Sand Castle Field Services than with Bank of America Field Services for the same delinquency interview. When you also consider the time it takes to process inspection reports and photos, you will have to work about 20 times harder for Bank of America Field Services than Sand Castle Field Services in order to make the same profit. Always do the math on inspection fees before you accept a job.
If Sand Castle does not pay you, you can file a court action against them. If the area manager (inspector) working for Bank of America Field Services does not pay you, you have no legal standing to file a court action against Bank of America Field Services as they are not a party to your agreement with another inspector.
About 99% of the problems in the field services industry are in the MORTGAGE segment. And in that segment, there are many more problems in the field service firms that have a high pyramid with several layers of middlemen between you and the top layer of the firm.
Commercial inspections is the sweet spot in the field services industry. If you are looking for part-time field services work, commercial inspections is the only place you want to be.
