What is your life worth? I have lived in Virginia in Fairfax county for many years. Virginia is great. I have performed many field service inspections and property preservation in Fairfax ... a very SAFE county.
I ventured across the Potomac River to the District of Columbia (DC) during a very short period for some inspections and property preservation. I soon discovered that there are a lot of high crime areas in DC. I then decided it was not worth the money to risk my life and stopped performing field service work in DC.
Check out the website at www.spotcrime.com.
Looking at the statistics for Detroit, I see THREE shootings in just the last 30 days.
What is your life worth? You will not be paid any more money to travel into high crime areas ... so stay away.
I stayed in Fairfax county in Virginia and stayed SAFE.
While any decent city will have its "ghetto" areas, I agree there are certain ones you are best not to do at all...since if anything happens to you, the company you work for isn't responsible basically since you are an IC.
In the meantime, I've gone through the ones I do in some middle-level cities. Not that bad really if you basically keep your nose clean and not talk to really anyone except any homeowner you might come in contact with.
